Monmouth County Crime Stoppers is a not-for-profit charitable organization. The program is run by a volunteer board of directors made up of local citizens who value their community and want to keep it safe. The Board oversees the routine business affairs, raises funds to pay the rewards, determines the reward amounts, and helps advertise Crime Stoppers to the public. The Board meets monthly; at these meetings it discusses the status of tips and decides on the amount to set for rewards. Tipsters are eligible for rewards of up to $5,000 but, despite this, many tipsters choose not to collect their rewards.
Monmouth County Crime Stoppers is funded by private donations and fundraising. No tax dollars are involved. The reward money paid out by the program is from the donations and fundraising collected from concerned citizens and businesses.
